RESUME 16

I have completed a M.Sc. in Supply Chain Management at the Smurfit Business School UCD. I am researching opportunities in Supply Chain and planning/procurement areas which were the focus of my studies. As part of the Masters Programme I worked on a Supply Chain project with Keeling’s Group. Specifically, this experience has demanded the ability to carry out an audit of an existing procurement function in order to identify areas for improvement and has required designing an improved procurement/sourcing process from the ground up.

I am specifically interested in transferring my experience in Procurement, Planning, Project Management, Process Improvement, Budgeting, Cost Control and customer relations experience to a challenging role that demands the ability to carry out an audit of an existing sales and supply function and implement improvements.

Work Experience

I have work experience from transition year in 2009 when I worked in Anne Brady McQuillans DFK Accountants for a week. I did a variety of tasks, such as, organising accounts, scanning documents, updating previously entered files in databases and proof reading of accounts and contracts.

I previously worked in a book shop in Howth village, which no longer trades. I unpacked and organised deliveries of books, as well, as packing and storing items. I also dealt directly with customers and was involved in selling merchandise.

I also worked in my Father’s business for a long period of time on a variety of jobs, including, a hand car-wash, working in a garden centre, selling and distributing decorative stone and solid fuels. With regards to the hand car-wash and selling of stone and fuel, I, again, worked directly with any customers who required help or information.

I most worked in Dunnes Stores, Ilac Centre, as a member of Christmas Staff from the 10th of November to December 24th. During this period I worked mainly as a sales assistant, operating a register, having received cash register training with Dunnes. I also dealt with customers’ queries about our stock, sizes of clothing or availabilty of items in other stores. As a result I became adept at using the stores computer to ascertain information about goods for customers. At the end of each day, I also assisted in cleaning up the shop floor and preparing for the next day of trade. Each morning I would also price-check and restock the department, to which I was assigned (which was mainly home wares) but I also worked in other departments too, throughout my time there. On occasion I worked on occasion in the stock room, disposing of rubbish and using a bailing machine for the used cardboard boxes.

My most recent employment was with Nearys Bar on Chatham Road just off Grafton Street in Dublin. I worked as a lounge boy, collecting and washing glasses, getting stock from the cellar and taking orders from customers were my primary responsibilities. These orders included drinks orders and food orders during lunch hours. I also changed kegs, cleaned tables; prepared the bar for the following business day. This required me to hoover the lounge and clean the toilets. I was also from time to time required to run various errands for the barmen if the need arose; this included fetching inventory that we ran out of. I also took in a number of keg deliveries and was also responsible for the recycling of glass bottles into the various categories to be ready for collection. This work allowed me to become adept at heavy lifting, (kegs, crates of stock etc.) memorizing orders and improved my interaction skills with customers. I worked in Nearys for 3 months towards the end of the summer and then during the busy Christmas period. We held wedding receptions and functions for groups and this allowed me to become familiar with working in a tight and confined space. During the Christmas period we were extremely busy and this allowed be to become comfortable working in a pressured environment that also required me to think quickly and to constantly be on my feet and working.

Skills

In transition year in secondary school I also received the Bronze President’s Award having completed numerous weeks of both personal, physical and community based tasks. I gained experience in undertaking new tasks by undertaking this challenge.

I have a good knowledge of computers and programmes such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

I have experience in working with others through previous employments, membership of sports teams and participation in other team activities in Secondary School.

I also took part in many team activities in the first few weeks of college in DCU and these helped me to further develop a working rapport with people and enhanced my group working skills.

I am a quick learner and willing to take on any tasks for me even if they are outside my comfort zone.

Native English speaker with a college level of French.
